Elizabeth P. Hickman, EdD, Retired Placement Director at Marymount College of Virginia, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in counseling and education.
A former associate dean of counseling and residence life at Marymount College of Virginia for three years, Dr. Hickman amassed 40 years of professional excellence in her industry prior to her retirement in 1984. Previously, she was the director of the Counseling Center at the college from 1974 to 1981 and a teacher of English conversation in Fuchu, Japan, from 1969 to 1973. Dr. Hickman was also employed as a community counselor with the Division of Massachusetts Employment Security, director of college transfer guidance at Marymount College of Virginia, and a public school teacher in Virginia and Ohio.
Alongside her primary endeavors, Dr. Hickman is a former member of the steering committee of the President’s Committee on Employment of the Handicapped, special advisor of international ranger camps in Denmark and Switzerland, a lecturer at the University of Maryland, and a special consultant at the International Quaker School in the Netherlands. Locally, she has been a White House Agency liaison since 1986 and a participant in the Kennedy Center Administration in Washington, DC, since 1984.
In recognition of her exceptional contributions to her community and education, Dr. Hickman has been honored with the President’s Volunteer Service Award since 2007 and the White House Volunteer Award in 2008. She was also the recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Eastern Illinois University and a grantee of the Raskob Foundation. She holds a Bachelor of Education, summa cum laude, from Eastern Illinois University and a Master of Arts and Doctor of Education from George Washington University. She is also a licensed counselor in the state of Virginia.
