Thompson M. Faller, PhD, Professor Emeritus at the University of Portland, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in philosophy, medical ethics, and bioethics.
With more than 50 years of professional experience, Dr. Faller has been recognized as professor emeritus of the University of Portland since 2014, having worked his way up from instructor to professor since 1964. A member of the American Association of University Professors, he has also been active with the National Association of Foreign Student Affairs, the International House of Japan and Delta Epsilon Sigma. In addition, he has been on the executive committee and chair of the National Association of the Boards of Catholic Education, president and board chair of the Blue Key International Honor Society, a knight with Knights of Malta, and a knight and chancellor with the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre.
Initially intending to pursue the legal field, Dr. Faller began his career as a student at St. Mary’s College, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in 1962. Encouraged to go into teaching by a mentor while in college, he found that he had a natural talent for it and completed a Master of Arts with Xavier University. Dr. Faller concluded his studies with the University of Salzburg, earning a Doctor of Philosophy in 1969.
Throughout his career, Dr. Faller has been recognized for his contributions, and he is most proud of receiving the Culligan Award from the University of Portland. In addition, he was the recipient of the Golden Palm, and the Danforth Foundation named him a Danforth Associate. St. Xavier Preparatory High School named him Alumnus of the Year, the Boy Scouts of America named him a Silver Beaver, the Patriarch of Jerusalem gave him a Pilgrim Shell, and the Knights of Columbus named him John F. Kennedy Man of the Year. Dr. Faller has been featured in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in the West, and Who’s Who in the World in recognition of his accomplishments.
