Placida Ramos Lopez, Retired Elementary School Educator at Alvin Independent School District, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in education.
A celebrated figure in the field of primary education, Ms. Lopez has nearly 40 years of professional experience in her areas of expertise. Now retired, she formerly served as a bilingual teacher and fifth grade teacher in the Alvin Independent School District from 1989 to 2004. Prior to these appointments, she was a first grade teacher with the school district from 1984 to 1989, a bilingual teacher with the Pasadena Independent School District from 1972 to 1982, and a third grade teacher and volleyball coach with Our Lady of Guadalupe School from 1966 to 1973.
To prepare for her illustrious career, Ms. Lopez pursued a formal education, first completing coursework at Victoria College and Our Lady of the Lake University from 1964 to 1968. She subsequently earned a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education in 1975. After obtaining some hands-on experience in the field, she completed further postgraduate coursework at the University of St. Thomas in 1987.
A member of the National Parent Teacher Association, the National Education Association, and the Houston Area Association for Bilingual Educators, Ms. Lopez won the Teacher of the Year Award in 1990 for her contributions and exceptional accomplishments in education, which she considers to be the highlight of her career. Listed in several editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the World, and Who’s Who of American Women, Ms. Lopez enjoys singing and writing in her spare time.
