Grace E. Quinlan, Adjunct Professor at Nassau Community College, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in mathematics and higher education.

With more than 40 years of professional excellence in the realm of mathematics, Ms. Quinlan has served as an adjunct professor at Nassau Community College since 2011, and she continues to tutor students of all ages on the side. Interested in mathematics from a young age, Ms. Quinlan fondly recalls a memory of her fourth grade teacher who helped her exponentially in mathematics; she has fallen in love with the subject ever since. As she matured, she decided to delve into the sphere of elementary education, a natural progression considering she always enjoyed working with children. She taught second through sixth graders at the New Hyde Park-Garden City Park Union Free School District from 1975 to 2011.

Earning a Bachelor of Arts from Molloy College in 1970 and a Master of Arts from Queens College in 1975, Ms. Quinlan has found much success in her field. Upon her inception as an educator, she was asked to reinvent the curriculum to make mathematics easier for students to learn. Creating a game out of the material, her programs blossomed and succeeded, and she began presenting her work at conferences. The highlights of her career have always been discovering that her students enjoy learning mathematics after her lessons.

Ms. Quinlan is a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the Association of Mathematics Teachers of New York State. The past president of the Nassau County Mathematics Teachers Association, she attributes her success to being able to create a comfortable environment in which to learn. Married since 1972, Ms. Quinlan is the proud mother of five children and three grandchildren.
