Catharine Savage Brosman, PhD, Professor Emeritus at Tulane University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in higher education.
With more than 35 years of professional excellence in the field, Dr. Brosman is a professor emeritus of Tulane University, having retired in 1997. Prior to her retirement, she was the Gore Chair in French professorship at the university and served as a DeVelling and Willis Visiting Research Professor at the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom in 1996. Previously holding roles as an assistant and associate professor of French at such universities as Sweet Briar College, the University of Florida, Mary Baldwin College, and the University of Waterloo, Dr. Brosman commenced her career as an instructor in French at Rice University in 1960.
Dr. Brosman delved into her career as a young adult, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Romance languages and a Master of Arts in French from Rice University. She subsequently studied in France as a Fulbright scholar. Returning to Rice University, she earned a Doctor of Philosophy in French in 1960.
Dr. Brosman is a prolific author and poet, having authored several books in English and French, more than 20 essays and memoirs in professional journals, and more than 500 poems published or forthcoming in quarterlies, journals, magazines, and anthologies. Her poetry anthologies have garnered significant attention by such publications as the Los Angeles Times and include such titles as “Watering,” “Passages,” “Breakwater,” “On the Old Plaza,” and her most recent, “Memory of Manaus: Poems.”
In recognition of her exceptional accomplishments, Dr. Brosman has accrued several accolades, including the Tulane Liberal Arts and Science Faculty Award for Excellence in Research, the Tulane Graduate Professor of the Year, the Mortarboard Award for Commendable Teaching, and the High Scott Cameron Service Award.
