For more than 40 years, Dr. Jemison has provided her communities with support and direction. Since 2005, she has served as the director of the Thumps Up Service Agency, bringing her previous experience in this area from her numerous roles with Tuscaloosa City Schools. For the district, she has been the Federal Programs Administrator, as well as an elementary director, Chapter I Supervisor, school psychologist, school psychometrist, and special education teacher. Earlier in her career, Dr. Jemison worked as a special education teacher for the Hale County Board of Education. In addition to these roles, she has been an assistant professor in education and psychology at Stillman College, as well as a member of the Mayor’s Prekindergarten Committee at the institution since 2005.
Dr. Jemison embarked on a career in her field by pursuing a rigorous and thorough education. Dr. Jemison received a Master of Arts from the University of Alabama in 1975. Furthermore, she received an EdS from the institution in 1988. Dedicated to lifelong learning, she earned a PhD at the same university in 2002. For her work, she has received the Breakthrough Literacy Award from the NABSE in 2000. She was also a grantee of the Patricia Roberts Harris Fellowship from the University of Alabama. She has maintained affiliation with the National Education Association, the Alabama ASCD, the National Association of School Psychologists, and Phi Delta Kappa.
