John D. Eick, PhD, Materials Engineer and Educator at the School of Dentistry at the University of Missouri, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in dentistry and higher education.

A curators’ professor emeritus at the School of Dentistry at the University of Missouri since 2014, Dr. Eick was the chair of the department of oral biology from 1991 to 2014, as well as a curators’ professor in the department of oral biology from 1989 to 2014. During his tenure, he rose through the ranks, first acting as an associate professor in the department of dental materials in the School of Dentistry at the State University of New York, associate professor and director of dental biomaterials at Oral Roberts University, and full professor in the department of oral biology in the School of Dentistry at the University of Missouri. He commenced his career as a laboratory assistant in the department of dental materials at the University of Michigan in 1960.

To prepare for his celebrated career, Dr. Eick earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Michigan in 1963, a Master of Science from George Washington University in 1966, and a Doctor of Philosophy from the State University of New York in 1971. He has since been a contributor of several articles to peer-reviewed journals and holds numerous patents in the field.

In recognition of his exceptional accomplishments, Dr. Eick has accrued several accolades throughout his career. Elected a fellow of the University of Missouri in 1997 and 2002, he has also been a fellow and associate of the Academy of Dental Materials. In addition, he was the recipient of the Sauder Distinguished Scientist Award from the International Association of Dental Research in 2004 and a Special Teaching Award from the School of Dentistry at the University of Missouri in 1992. Notably, he has been a grantee in the field by the National Institutes of Health and the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research since 1996. He has been included in the National Institutes of Health Top 5% of Investigators.

Married to Mary Elizabeth Warren since 1960, Dr. Eick is the proud father of three children, six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He has been selected for inclusion into several editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in the Midwest, and Who’s Who in the World.
