Sorell Schwartz, Professor Emeritus of the Georgetown University Medical Center, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in medical education.
Interested in the biological sciences from an early age, Dr. Schwartz served with the United States Navy from 1963 to 1966. Working in research, particularly in cellular pharmacology, he joined Georgetown University in 1968 after 20 years of conducting experiments. During his time with the school, Dr. Schwartz was instrumental in developing working principles, such as protection of human research subjects. Some of his other achievements include research in mathematical modeling of biological systems, risk assessment and management, methods for causality assessment, uncertainty judgments and research in clinical research ethics.
Dr. Schwartz earned a Bachelor of Science in pharmacology at University Medical in 1959. He continued at the Medical College of Virginia to receive a PhD in 1963. Throughout his career, he has maintained affiliation with the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, the Society of Toxicology, the Society for Risk Analysis, the Montgomery County Victim Services Advisory Board, the Montgomery County Criminal Justice Coordinating Commission and the Montgomery County Opioid Intervention. Dr. Schwartz has also contributed to numerous books, chapters, journals and scientific papers.
