Subhasie Wijemanne, Assistant Professor of Neurology at The University of Neurology, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in neurology and medical education.
Dr. Wijemanne has been a member of the faculty at The University of Texas at San Antonio since 2014. Prior to this role, she served as the chief resident at Tufts University School of Medicine from 2011 to 2012. Medicine had long been the focus of Dr. Wijemanne’s aspirations, having grown up watching her father practice as a doctor. Shortly after graduating from medical school, she had the opportunity to practice neurology and became invested in movement disorders. Finding her place in this specialization has allowed her to excel in her medical career.
Dr. Wijemanne earned an MD, Faculty of Medicine, from the University of Peradeniya in 2000. In 2009, she interned at the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center, and followed with a residency at Tufts University in 2012. In 2014, she served in a fellowship with the Baylor College of Medicine. She is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, the American Board of Neurological Surgery, and she is licensed to practice medicine in the states of Texas and Massachusetts.
Attributing her success to hard work, dedication and committing, the time needed, Dr. Wijemanne maintains affiliation with the American Academy of Neurology, the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society, and the Texas Neurological Society. In 2007, she was recognized by the Royal College of Physicians with an MRCP. In 2000, Dr. Wijemanne received the Dr. Barr-Kumar Kulasinghe Memorial Prize in Surgery. Outside of practicing medicine, she enjoys traveling, cooking, music, playing piano and tennis.
