Dr. Paul E. Rosene, Music Educator and Band Director at Education Consultants, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in music education and consulting.
Dr. Rosene is honored for professional longevity as a music educator. His career began in 1951, when he accepted a role of Director of Music Education at Saybrook Public School. Throughout his career, he has taught at a number of schools and universities, as well as led and directed programs in academia and the US Air Force. In 1967, he joined the faculty at Illinois State University, and remained as a professor at the institution until 1990. Since then, he has parlayed his experience into leading and inspiring students as a music consultant with Handbells and Choirchimes, Malmark, Inc. Dr. Rosene originally intended to study mechanical engineering in school, but was offered a full scholarship from Illinois State University to learn and teach music. He tried engineering for one semester before deciding to follow his heart.
Dr. Rosene earned a Bachelor of Science in music education from Illinois State University in 1951, and followed the degree with a master’s in music education, psychology, and music from the institution in 1957. In the intervening years between these two degrees, he served in the US Air Force and was a staff sergeant, band director, and instructor at the Band School. Always committed to his own learning, Dr. Rosene earned a Doctor of Music in education from the University of Illinois in 1976. He is a Certified Master Teacher with the Music Educators National Conference, as well as a Certified Supervisor in Student Teaching in Music and Certified Master Teacher with the State of Illinois.
For his achievements, Dr. Rosene was inducted to the Hall of Fame at Illinois State University in 2010, and he received an Outstanding Alumnus Award from the School of Music at the university in 2001 and a Distinguished Service Award in 1990. In 1999, Malmark Inc. recognized him with a Service Appreciation Award. In addition, Dr. Rosene was presented with a Distinguished Service Award from the Illinois Music Education Association in 1991. He has written several books and creative works, including, “Special Effects for Handchimes,” “Special Effects for Choirchimes,” and “Making music with Choirchimes Instruments.” An unexpected but rewarding perk of his career has been hearing about the successes of his former students.
