Professor Debbie M. Schaum, Associate Chair of Applied Aviation Sciences at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in meteorological education.
An esteemed figure in the fields of higher education and meteorology, Ms. Schaum has accrued more than 20 years of professional excellence in her areas of expertise. An associate professor of applied aviation sciences at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, she teaches courses regarding aviation and weather, bringing to life a field to better aid air crews for weather events.
To prepare for her illustrious career, Ms. Schaum sought a formal education, first obtaining a Bachelor of Science in atmospheric sciences from the University of Missouri System. She followed this accomplishment with a Master of Arts in management from Webster University. She maintains affiliation with the University Aviation Association.
Attributing her success to her past life experiences, Ms. Schaum was a former member of the ROTC, serving as a major in the U.S. Air Force for a number of years prior to delving into her career. Understanding that women were underrepresented in the aviation field, she sought to open the doors of aviation and meteorology for women and act as a role model for middle school-aged students to provide a refreshing introduction into the field.
In recognition of her exceptional achievements, Ms. Schaum has been presented with a number of accolades throughout her career. Most recently earning a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017, she formerly was named a Professional Woman by Marquis Who’s Who in 2016, a Top Female Executive in 2015 and 2016, among Elite Women Worldwide in 2016, and an Elite American Educator in 2015. When she is not teaching aviation meteorology to students, Ms. Schaum enjoys hosting international exchange students and benefitting from the lasting friendships she has made with her students over the years. In the coming future, she plans on progressing forward in her career with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
