Dr. Stephen Joseph Leone, Professor and Program Administrator at Westchester Community College, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in education.

Certified as an educator in the states of New York and Pennsylvania, Dr. Leone has spent his career sharing his knowledge with students. Inspired to follow his career path when he was young, he was always interested in reading, science, and technology, and as a member of the Boy Scouts and the YMCA, he had the opportunity to lead and teach classes. The same year he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in English and education from LaSalle University, he joined Bishop Egan High School of Catholic Schools of Philadelphia as a teacher. Dr. Leone rapidly advanced through the field, serving as a teacher at Sewanhaka High School of the Central High School District, Farmingdale High School, and Manhattanville College. Today, he maintains positions as a teacher at Rockland Community College, a program administrator at Westchester Community College, and a professor at Westchester Community College.

When Dr. Leone isn’t working, he enjoys being active in his community. He is an English curriculum coordinator for the Verizon Next Step Program and a computer consultant for the Nyack Fire Department, and he was previously an advisor for the drama club at Sewanhaka High School and the literary magazine at Bishop Egan High School. He also served as the president and secretary of the Mazeppa Engine Co. #2, the chair of the Nyack YMCA Board of Managers, the chair of the Mazeppa Planning Committee, a founding member of the Rockland County YMCA Youth Services, and an editor of the D.A. Report. Notably, he was the co-chair of the PI of the PAL-TECH National Science Foundation Grant, and the acting curriculum chair for networking at Westchester Community College. A respected voice in his field, he maintains affiliation with the Modern Language Association, the National Council of Teachers of English, the Conference on College Composition, the Alliance for Computers and Writing, the LaSalle Education Alumni Association, and the North East Cisco Networking Academy Training Alliance. Dr. Leone holds a Master of Arts in English from Villanova University in 1982 and a Doctor of Arts in English from St. John’s University.

A highlight of Dr. Leone’s career was being recognized in the Cisco program for forming relationships with other academies, bringing them into the program, and getting them started. He was also proud to earn the Next Step Recognition of Service from the Next Step Program and the Outstanding Programs in English Award from the Two Year College Association-National Council for Teachers of English, and to be named an American Legion Good Citizen. His achievements were featured in numerous editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in the East, and Who’s Who in the World. He attributes his success to his background, as well as to the fact that he is highly student-focused in his approach, always considering how he would go about presenting the information to students.
