Arun A. Rangaswami, MD, Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Stanford University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in pediatric oncology.

A respected physician and educator, Dr. Rangaswami focuses on pediatric oncology. Prior to joining Stanford University in 2006, he served as an assistant professor with the University of California, Davis, for five years. Throughout his career, Dr. Rangaswami has taken great pride in his self-critical attitude, which he believes has enabled him to maintain the highest standard of practice for outpatients.

Long before considering a career in medicine, Dr. Rangaswami developed an interest in science through his parents, who were both scientists. With a particular focus on biology, he chose to pursue a career in medicine as a way to build a future that had some social relevance. Although his initial plan was to become a surgeon, Dr. Rangaswami found his richest experiences to have occurred while he was working in pediatrics. He holds a Bachelor of Science from Johns Hopkins University and an MD from Washington University in St. Louis. In addition, Dr. Rangaswami has completed an internship and residency through the St. Louis Children’s Hospital, as well as a fellowship through Stanford University.

Since the beginning of his career, Dr. Rangaswami has been grateful to have had some excellent mentors. In an effort to give back to the medical community, he maintains involvement with the mentorship program at Stanford University, as well as FIOP FIOPEL, The Children’s Oncology Group and ACLOU. As Dr. Rangaswami moves forward with his career, he aims to continue working in academic medicine while being involved in clinical trials, cancer genetics and graduate education.

In recognition of his contributions, Dr. Rangaswami was selected to receive the C. John Tupper Teaching Award for Excellence in Medical Education from the University of California, Davis, in 1999.
