A celebrated figure in the realm of elementary level education, Ms. Cummings has accrued more than 40 years of excellence in her fields of interest. A reading a mathematics teacher at St. Sabina Academy from 1991 to 2006, Ms. Cummings has impacted the lives of both students and colleagues alike with her passion for education and compassionate demeanor. Prior to this appointment, she served as an elementary and secondary education laboratory teacher, a reading resource teacher, a social studies teacher, and a reading teacher at various schools throughout the Chicago area.
To prepare for her decorated roles, Ms. Cummings sought formal education, achieving a Bachelor of Science at Barber-Scotia College in 1962 and a Master of Arts at Northeastern Illinois University in 1974. She is certified to teach in the states of Illinois and North Carolina.
Alongside her professional roles, Ms. Cummings has served her community in a number of endeavors, including as a mentor teacher with the Teachers Chicago Program at Arna W. Bontemps School since 1996, chair of the Activity Committee at Arna W. Bontemps School from 1992 to 1993, and chair of the Reading Committee at Arna W. Bontemps School from 1986 to 1992. She has also been a presenter in her field and was on the staff development team of the Reading Teachers Academy for Professional Growth by the Chicago Board of Education.
