Dhiren R. Thakker, PhD, Interim Dean at the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in pharmaceutical education.
An expert in pharmaceutical chemistry, Dr. Thakker has accrued more than 30 years of professional experience in his areas of interest. Serving as a professor and associate dean at University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy since 1996, Dr. Thakker has established himself as a prominent figure in the field through his knowledge and teaching skills. Prior to his current appointment, Dr. Thakker worked for Glaxo, Inc. (now GlaxoSmithKline PLC), as director, department head, and section head from 1984 to 1996. Earlier in his career, he worked as a research investigator for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
In preparation for his celebrated career, Dr. Thakker first sought formal education, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from the University of Mumbai in India, followed by a master’s degree in pharmaceutical chemistry from Columbia University. He concluded his education with a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Kansas in 1975.
A leading expert in his industry, Dr. Thakker maintains affiliation with several organizations, including the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, the International Society for the Study of Xenobiotics, the American Association for Cancer Research, the American Chemical Society, and the International Pharmaceutical Federation. Dr. Thakker has been named a fellow of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists.
