Joseph L. Laurenti, PhD, Professor Emeritus and Writer at Illinois State University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in foreign language education.

A respected linguist who is proficient in numerous Romance languages, Dr. Laurenti has enjoyed a celebrated career as an educator and writer. For nearly 40 years, he taught Spanish, Italian and German as an instructor with Illinois State University until his retirement in 2000. Recognized as a professor emeritus, Dr. Laurenti continues to be recognized as a leader in the educational community, and he has been credited with writing more than 200 publications pertaining to his areas of expertise.

Following a lifelong desire to become a researcher and educator, Dr. Laurenti completed a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish, French, and Italian at the University of Illinois in 1958. Upon receiving a Master of Arts in Spanish, French, and Italian in 1959, Dr. Laurenti attended the University of Missouri, where he completed a PhD in Spanish and French in 1962.

Dr. Laurenti joined Illinois State University as a professor shortly after completing formal education. Attributing his success to his ongoing dedication to work and research, he especially enjoys passing on his knowledge, teaching languages to future generations. Dr. Laurenti is a former member of the American Association of University Professors and Modern Language Association.

Dr. Laurenti continues to serve as a reviewer with the Modern Language Journal, and as an editorial board member with Edition Reichenberger. His most recent works include “Estudios Bibliográficos Sobre le Edno de Oro y el Siglo de Las Luces,” “Catálogo Bibliográfico de la Literatura Picaresca,” and “Estudios Bibliográficos Sobre la Edad de Oro.”

In recognition of his contributions to research and education, Dr. Laurenti was selected to receive a Worldwide Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017. He also received several Distinguished Service Awards as a professor with Illinois State University. Dr. Laurenti was most recently honored for Outstanding Contribution to the Youth of America by the America & Remington Registry in 2017.
