Thelma J. Douglass, EdD, Educational Administrator at Mount Corinth Baptist Church, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in education management.

Dr. Douglass has been the Director of Student Affairs with Mount Corinth Baptist Church since 2008. In this role, she brings more than 30 years of experience coordinating programs, lecturing, and consulting. In addition to her primary position, Dr. Douglass is the Chief Executive Officer of ARK Consulting, and assistant to the president and higher education and motivational consultant at Sam Houston State University. She has previously worked as a programming, conference, and recruitment coordinator at the University of Houston, where she has also provided her services as the Assistant Dean of Students. She has also been a member of the Soul Lifters Gospel Choir at Sam Houston State University, a faculty member of Vanderbilt University, and a regional adviser for the National Association of Colleges for Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas. Additionally, Dr. Douglass taught Bible study with the University of Houston Good News Gospel Choir from 1980 to 1993.

Dr. Douglass began her career as a student, earning a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Houston in 1974. She continued her education studies at Texas Southern University before earning a Master of Arts at the University of Houston in 1977. Consistently dedicated to academic pursuits, she later received a Doctor of Education from the University of Houston in 1992. In 1988, she helped write the book Research of Regional Transit,’ after writing SWACHURH’s Advisor’s Handbook in 1986.

Dr. Douglass is known for being the first African-American and the first woman to hold the title of Vice President of Sam Houston State University. She has received recognition from the United States Congress, receiving the Award for Outstanding Service, Leadership, Loyalty, and Support to Sam Houston State University and the Resolution Plaque for Outstanding, Service, Leadership, and Support from the University of Houston Good News Gospel Choir and the Mayor of Houston.
