Jeanne Elinor Karison, PhD, Faculty at Roanoke-Chowan Community College, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in English education.
In Dr. Karison’s role, she teaches and prepares students who may not be ready for regular college courses. In addition, she teaches writing in the work place courses, which prepare students for specialized writing such as flyers, posters and professional emails. Knowing that she instills students with valuable skills that will last them throughout their academic and professional endeavors is rewarding for her. Dr. Karison went in to the education profession because she has a lifelong passion for learning and teaching. In addition to teaching the college, she mobilizes her skills for editing projects with the school, helping edit the website and continuing education catalog among other materials.
Dr. Karison first pursued her own education at Old Dominion University, earning a Bachelors of Science in 1971. She continued at the University of Virginia to receive a Masters of Education in 1972. After working for a number of years, she returned to her academic pursuits, receiving a PhD from Auburn University in 1993. Throughout the years, she has received a number of awards for her work. Upon completing the PhD at Auburn University, she was recognized as an Outstanding Graduate. She has also received accolades from Empire Who’s Who, Stamford Who’s Who and Cambridge Who’s Who.
Knowing the importance of an education, Dr Karison is dedicated to helping those less fortunate seek academic and professionals gains. She is involved with PEO International, a philanthropic organization which helps women around the world pursue an education via scholarships, grants, awards, loans and stewardship. Looking toward the future, Dr. Karison endeavors to continue teaching reading and writing to her students.
