She has worked as a director of the American Hebrew Academy and the Central Agency for Jewish Education, as well as senior director of undergraduate admissions at Bentley University. Ms. Smith-Vaughn was also a guidance counselor of the American Nicaraguan School, where she fell into her career after her family moved to Nicaragua. She has volunteered in the country and in the District of Columbia.

Ms. Smith-Vaughn holds a degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, a BA in economics from Emory University, and a MA in education from Framingham State University. She was certified in college counseling and mediation, and though her career has evolved, Ms. Smith-Vaughn’s goal is to continue finding funding for students in developing nations who don’t have collateral or banking services. She is the author of “Quick Guide to the University Application Process” and is a member of industry groups such as the National Association for College Admission Counseling.
