Anne R. Hardin Mason, Teacher, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership Elementary and Secondary Learning.
Ms. Hardin has been a teacher in North Carolina since 1954, and was a representative for the 1980 Teacher of the Year Competition for the Southwest Elementary School, now the Southwest Primary School. She entered teaching because she always enjoyed working with students, and taught algebra and geometry while in college at an orthopedic hospital. The experience led her into teaching as a career. Ms. Hardin is a Marquis Who’s Who Industry Expert and a recipient of the Marquis Who’s Who Humanitarian Award as well as the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. She has appeared in several volumes of Who’s Who of American Women and the 21st edition of Who’s Who in the World.
An alumna of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Ms. Hardin entered teaching with the North School in Gastonia, North Carolina in 1954, and is proud of her position with the Hickory Public School System. She taught mainly fifth grade in the best elementary school in the area, and was asked by the principal to be a part of a tutoring center initiative. Ms. Hardin was a private tutor for 12 years, valued by local principals when students needed special attention. Many of them went on to succeed in academics, and Ms. Hardin feels these to be her most rewarding teaching experiences of all.
Today, Ms. Hardin continues to give to her community as chairperson for the transportation committee and member of the congregational care committee at the First Presbyterian Church. She is a member of the National Educational Association and the North Carolina Association of Educators. Ms. Hardin still has a lot of knowledge for the people of Hickory, and values their musical abilities; naturally, because she taught many of them!
