Sharon A. Gordon, Retired Educator, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Teaching.
Ms. Gordon retired in 2011 after serving Sparta High School from 1968 to 2000 and as a preschool teacher aide with the Circle of Friends Pre-school in Sparta for 11 years. Though her professional field was mathematics, she was well known as a lover and writer of poetry, and won a 1963 Creative Writing Award from Centenary University. Ms. Gordon is a recipient of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, and has appeared in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in the World, and Who’s Who of American Women.
An alumna of Drew University, Ms. Gordon earned a BA in mathematics, chemistry, and history in 1967, and further matriculated at Montclair State University to earn a MEd in 1970. She was certified to teach secondary school mathematics for grades seven through twelve with the State Board of Examiners in the State of New Jersey. While educating students, Ms. Gordon has also been a prolific member of her civic community as a choir member of the Sparta United Methodist Church.
Ms. Gordon has numerous interests in baking, cooking, counted cross stitching, and of course reading. She is a member of the Jack Russell Terrier Club of America, and has professional memberships with the National Education Association, the Sussex County Retired Educators Association, and the New Jersey Education Association. Her academic excellence was recognized with membership in the Phi Theta Kappa honor society.
