Hildegard Rissel, PhD, Language Educator, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Linguistics.
Dr. Rissel has always enjoyed reading and foreign languages, and with one thing leading to another, her interest led her to teaching and enjoying new students and new challenges year after year. She is now an associate professor of languages and literature with Virginia State University, and is a noted contributor to linguistics publications. Dr. Rissel enjoys travelling to Spanish speaking countries, as well as reading good novels for relaxation.
As a Marquis Who’s Who Industry Expert, Dr. Rissel has been featured in numerous volumes of Who’s Who in America and the 28th edition of Who’s Who of American Women. She is a recipient of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Rissel is an alumna of Georgetown University, ultimately earning a PhD in the Golden Age of Spanish literature in 1990. She initially taught with the University of Wisconsin-Washington County, and notes that dealing with students there is always something new every day. Dr. Rissel has relished the chance to interact with other colleagues, especially on conferences in other countries. She has been admitted to the Phi Beta Kappa honor society.
Dr. Rissel expresses deep appreciation for her mentor Dr. Mujica, and extends that same guidance to her students today. She advises other linguistics professionals that the field is not always smooth, to have patience, and to join organizations to help each other. “Be aware that students are always going to be different, day to day and year to year. Strive to learn how to accept and adapt to the students and the way you teach.” Dr. Rissel’s PhD dissertation was “Three Plays by Moreto and their Adaptations in France”. She is a member of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, among other professional groups. Dr. Rissel has contributed to her civic community as regent of Regina Caeli, Inc., from 2001 to 2004.
