Walter Stadtler, American Diplomat, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in International Affairs.
Mr. Stadtler has dedicated 43 years to the betterment of international relations for America, and most recently served as a professor and director of the Peacekeeping Policy Program at George Mason University from 1995 to 2000. At the same time, he served as a U.S. member of the International Defense Advisory Board for the Baltic Republics. Mr. Stadtler has been a representative of the U.S. in one role or another since becoming vice consul of the American Consulate in Southampton, England from 1962 to 1963. Before embarking on diplomatic relations, he served to the rank of captain with the U.S. Army. Today, Mr. Stadtler is a senior adviser and former president of the NDU Foundation.
Born in New York, New York to Walter Henry and Paula Stadtler, Mr. Stadtler was a student at Sorbonne University in Paris, and completed an AB with Fordham University in 1957. He was taking postgraduate coursework at Columbia University when he answered the call and enlisted with the Army. Mr. Stadtler was tapped for the U.S. Department of State fresh out of the armed forces, and served in Germany, South Africa, Ethiopia, and Sweden. In 1978, he became a European Affairs Adviser with the U.S. mission to the United Nations in New York, and was made a member of the Royal College of Defense Studies in London the next year. Mr. Stadtler was an ambassador for the U.S. Embassy in Cotonou, Benin, from 1986 to 1990, and a senior fellow of the Office of the Secretary of Defense until 1994.
Mr. Stadtler has appeared in the pages of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in America: Student Version, Who’s Who in American Politics, Who’s Who in the East, and Who’s Who in the World. He is a member of the American Foreign Service Association, as well as the Army and Navy Club. Mr. Stadtler is the proud father of Fiona, Walter Jr., and Catriona with his wife, Maida Maria MacDonald. In his free time, he enjoys music and travel.
