Jane Williams Fleming, Retired Teacher, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Learning.

Ms. Fleming has been in the discipline of learning all her life, and continues to attend the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute after more than 36 years of teaching in California and as a speaker for the Board of Education. During her teaching career, she felt that she learned as much from the students as they did from her, and treasured the rapport formed within the classroom every school year. Her class became like a family, and her thoughts were always on what would be best for the students. Ms. Fleming is a recipient of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, and was featured with Who’s Who of American Women.

Born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania to James Robert Groman and Marion Pauline Groman, Ms. Fleming attended the University of California, Los Angeles, and earned an MA from California State University, Long Beach. She joined the San Diego Unified School District, and taught at Newport-Mesa before joining the Long Beach district. In addition to teaching, Ms. Fleming wrote a book, “Why Janey Can’t Teach” which was never published. She feels that teachers don’t get the pay and respect that they deserve. However, Ms. Fleming was recognized with membership in the honor society Phi Kappa Phi, and is a member of the Retired Teachers Association, the UCLA Alumni, the Planetary Society, the Red Hat Society, the Museum of Tolerance, and the Simon Wiesenthal Center. She is the proud mother of three sons and three daughter-in-laws, as well as the grandmother of three boys.
