Elisabeth J. Morgan, Director of International Initiatives at the College of Arts and Sciences, Eastern Michigan University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in teaching.
With exceptional determination and curiosity, Dr. Morgan dedicated two and a half years of her life to teaching English in Japan, which inspired her to find out more about the experience and to continue providing such opportunities to others. She is proud of establishing the Office of International Initiatives in the College of Arts and Sciences, and of receiving an Award for Effective Teaching from the university’s alumni association. In addition, Dr. Morgan was asked to give the plenary address and workshops for respective TESOL organizations in Peru, the Honduras, and Namibia, in her ongoing efforts to enhance internationalization.
Born in Bay City, Michigan, Dr. Morgan earned a BA in French and English secondary Education before going to Japan. When she returned, she continued to study the subject, ultimately earning a PhD in foreign and second language education from the University at Buffalo. While at Buffalo, Dr. Morgan taught with the Malaysian Program, and joined Eastern Michigan University in 1991 as an assistant professor and head of the World Languages Department. She established the Office of International Initiatives that year, and has enabled many curious academics in their world-hopping endeavors.
Dr. Morgan holds a certificate in French from the Institut de Touraine in Tours, France, and is a member of the Association of International Education Administrators, NAFSA, and the Phi Beta Delta Honor Society for International Scholars. She gives her time as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and Kumon North America. In her spare time, Dr. Morgan enjoys photography, gardening, travel, reading, and spending time with family. She is married to David Woke.
